The Patent is directed to a slot game which includes active areas and inactive areas, wherein portions of the inactive areas are unlocked upon the occurrence of a triggering event. The unlocking of inactive areas make them active in the game for purposes of determining an outcome and therefore can increase payouts and/or trigger the unlocking of additional portions of the inactive areas until all the inactive areas in the game are unlocked and used in determining the game payout.
